Candor has its limits. As a culture, we African Americans put a premium on telling it like it is and speaking truth to power. But there is also a power in silence, and many of us would do well to put it into practice. When we speak indiscriminately, even when we have the moral high ground, we give away our position. We help our opponents strategize against us.
